Hon. Oboth Oboth Denies Knowledge of Endorsement for Speaker, Questions Reporter:

West Budama Central MP and Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Marksons Oboth Oboth, has distanced himself from claims that he has been endorsed by the Commander of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the next Speaker of Parliament.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament, Hon. Oboth expressed surprise at the news, saying he had not been informed of any such endorsement. He humorously responded to a reporter who claimed he was the “chosen one” by asking, “Are you the one that chose me?”  drawing laughter from those present.

Oboth explained that he is not active on social media and therefore had no knowledge of the circulating claims linking him to the speakership endorsement. “I am not aware about being endorsed as the next Speaker of Parliament by the Commander of Defence Forces, because I am not on social media,” he said.

The remarks come amidst heightened speculation and political maneuvering over who will succeed as the next Speaker in the upcoming 12th Parliament. Several names have been circulating online as possible contenders for the position, but the NRM party has yet to make an official pronouncement.

Hon. Oboth’s calm but pointed response reflected both humility and restraint, as he reaffirmed his focus on serving his constituents and carrying out his duties under the Ministry of Defence. His statement adds clarity to the growing rumors and underscores the confusion sparked by social media discussions around the speakership race.
