Minister Henry Musasizi Pledges to Intensify Fight Against Poverty in Rubanda

The Minister of State for Finance, Henry Musasizi, has expressed gratitude to the people of Rubanda for their continued trust in his leadership since 2011, pledging that his new term in Parliament will focus on fighting poverty and lifting households out of the subsistence economy.

Musasizi noted that while his past terms brought visible progress, the next phase will prioritize transitioning more residents into the money economy, particularly through the Parish Development Model (PDM) a key government initiative aimed at improving household incomes at the parish level.

“Now in the new term, we shall build on the achievements so far achieved in the Parish Development Model to ensure that we bring as many households as possible into the money economy,” he said.

The minister highlighted that Rubanda remains largely rural, with an estimated 35 percent of households still engaged in subsistence farming a situation he intends to reverse through targeted development funding. “In Rubanda, we have big parishes of over 5,000 people or about 2,000 households. We plan to increase the budget for these large parishes so that we are able to cover as many households as possible,” Musasizi explained.

He said while substantial progress had not been achieved in the previous financial year, government plans are underway to allocate more resources to expand PDM coverage and strengthen local economic activities.

Musasizi’s commitment underscores the government’s broader effort to reduce poverty and promote inclusive growth, particularly in rural Uganda, where many households still depend on subsistence farming for survival.
